Most of you should already know of my love for the Mass Effect universe (if not, see this post), and this past weekend after a few weeks of fan-based votes for what the “new” Female Shepard aka FemShep (even though I coulda sworn the blonde one won the first contest), and we’ve finally got the reveal from artist Patryk Olejniczak (who was just doing fan-art and now actually works at Bioware):
Before I bail here, I wanted to touch on the other fantastic Mass Effect artwork that Patryk has done, you can see his blog here, and all of his artwork over at Deviantart.
So it was announced on Sunday at PAX that ‘Beta Weekends’ for SWTOR will begin this upcoming weekend (September 2nd). I (and I think most people) are assuming it’ll be the standard email invite type of thing, but who knows at the moment (at least until the invites go out). I’d figure we should see some emails by mid-week, so people can have time to download the beta clients. We’ll see!
We’ve all sort of known about Open World PvP (or we’ve all played it to some degree), but it looks like its coming to SWTOR in a crazy way. Ilum the first planet they’ve announced is a “high-level” PvP, which is basically 100 vs 100 (it seems at all times, given some sort of respawn time for base defeats?). Below is a video from PAX via AskAJedi.com, concerning the announcement.
Here we go, with the continuation of some fan fiction for my Fallen Jedi character in Star Wars the Old Republic. First post is here. You can find a whole lot of excellent stories at the ‘Twilight Gamers‘ community forums.
…
His black boots moved softly, though each footfall was hard and had a sense of determination, his black cape constantly moving around him with each step he took. He had passed through three corridors and two mid-chambers of the Oblivion, and it seemed which each step he took the ship buckled and shook. Explosions and turbolaser fire echoed throughout the ships frame, her very soul cried out. There had been nothing worthwhile since the encounter with that trio of soldiers; he had heard moans of horror, blaster fire, and there were times he heard nothing, as if a vacuum had surrounded him – but these, these were sounds of death and those things while he welcomed them, he was not looking for at the moment.
Turning into a short corridor which connected to a larger hanger bay, a faint sense of life sprang up in his mind for a split second, and then it was gone, as if it was never there in the first place. Yet, he knew better. He had known so much battle, that some things that would generally go unnoticed by most, did not. Had he been engaged in combat, or otherwise preoccupied, this trailing sense would have possibly eluded him – and that, that is exactly the time the Shadow would strike.
Doctor Who is back! That’s right, it seemed like its been an eternity – but that could just be all the Torchwood we’ve been mixing in between this split season, but back to the Doctor! A pretty fun romp (yes, I used the word romp) of an episode, and it starts off with a fun crop circle, I have a urge to make one now. We have some more twists and turns along River Song’s timeline (and her character), and we of course have another death. Throw in a nice punch to the face of Hitler via Rory, and we find out how guilty the Doctor feels about all of his previous companions and the hope he still holds forth for Amy.
First off, before I say anything more, before you even read anything else, stop and go buy Mass Effect 2 (its for sale all over the place for $19.99). You NEED to play Mass Effect 2.
Sometime in late 2009 I saw the following trailer, and instantly I thought to myself, “How could I never have heard of Mass Effect?”
And looking back now, I still had no idea. Maybe because it came out for the Xbox so it was just something I turned a blind eye to, who knows.. After a while I recalled hearing people saying they had played it, it was great, but people tend to say that about a lot of crap games I’ve bought over the years. So I dove into the internet, looking up information on it, and so luckily Steam was having their 2009 Holiday Sale, and I got on 1/1/10 Mass Effect 1 for $4.99. I also, at some point (maybe my second play through) included both DLC’s Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station, both were fun and luckily one was free, so that was awesome.
I’ve currently tallied up a total of 80 hours in Mass Effect 1 (via xfire), and I’ll say a lot of that was before I got Mass Effect 2 (even though I did play through once more after playing through ME2). On 1/23/10 I pre-ordered Mass Effect 2.
What was that? A countdown? To what you ask? To our wedding! Wow. Time is flying so fast. We’re getting married on 9/25/11, and all the details are coming together, all the magic is ready, and the fun is just waiting to be held.
Am I freaking out? I get that question now and then – no … not that I can tell at least, not yet.
So, something I have touched on in here (other than maybe one my Season Finale post) is Fringe. The show has taken some mighty interesting turns over the few seasons it has existed, but overall, I think the characters are fantastic and the universe (universes) are awesome. So, September 23rd, two days before our wedding, Fringe will return. Here’s the latest promo for it:
Are you a fan? Do you think Fringe will make it back for another season?
One of the most awesome things about Star Wars: The Old Republic, is that not only do you get companions (love that Doctor Who term), that can quest with you – but they have their own skills and can (and will) be doing things while they aren’t out with you, or when you’re offline. How very cool.
So today, from a few places, it looks like the skills (and their vague-ish terms) are out and about, here we go:
