Definitive Linear Doctor Who Timeline.

Posted by Dravin on April 29, 2011

I’ll be honest, I’ve never checked out Newsarama.com at least on a regular basis, nor do I follow Alan Kistler on twitter. I do both now though. Especially after reading this ‘Definitive Linear DOCTOR WHO, TORCHWOOD, SARAH JANE Timeline’. Snippet below, and link below as well. Very awesome.

“It’s been said that I’m a little insane. Here, I prove it. Due to popular demand, here is a linear timeline concerning the adventures seen in Doctor WhoTorchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Concerning the criteria: this timeline mainly focuses on the 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors. Other Doctors and their adventures are only mentioned if they have a direct connection to one of the modern day stories or if they have major historical significance to things discussed in the modern stories. The cut-off points are the 19th century (when Torchwood was formed) and the 21st century. Any longer and we’d be here for days.”

Read the entire post and the timeline over at Newsarama.com!

As a side note, our very own Time Lord Cat is now following Alan as well. Karel says that “Any friend of the Doctor, is a friend of his”.

SWTOR: Dev Blog – User Interface

Posted by Dravin on April 28, 2011

User interfaces, really what is almost more important to the game itself? We stare at the same visual all day long – sure we can tweak it, mod it, or even hide some of it – but at the end of the interface is to some degree what makes or breaks a game.

I love how they show some progression, I can see some major changes in their ideas as they played with it. Worth the read…

“We used the analogy of the cockpit of a steam locomotive compared to a modern sports car. The locomotive had indicators and dials jumbled in all corners of the cockpit and the sports car had a sleek driver dash containing all the necessary indicators in an organized layout. This illustration shows the differences we were thinking about.”

Doctor Who Returns!

Posted by Dravin on April 23, 2011

How did I note get around to posting more about Doctor Who yet? So much to love, so little time to post! Regardless of that, remember, TONIGHT, the Doctor Returns!

I have quite a bit to post about Doctor Who, let alone some mini reviews of each episode as they happen – I’ll catch up! Promise!

RIP Elisabeth Sladen.

Posted by Dravin on April 20, 2011

“The actor Elisabeth Sladen best known for her role as Doctor Who‘s time travelling companion, has died of cancer, aged 63. Sladen played many roles over the years, but was defined by her portrayal of tough-talking journalist Sarah Jane Smith in the BBC series, and later went on to star in her own spin-off programme, The Sarah Jane Adventures.”

I’m not new to Doctor Who, but the whole Whoniverse has a LOT of history. The Sarah Jane Adventures were never aired here, or at least I never caught them and last time I checked Netflix was lax on the subject as well. Anyhow, a Companion of old, and an adventurer all on her own as passed away.

“Her character was introduced in 1973 alongside Jon Pertwee’s Doctor as a feminist antidote to the traditional “Who girl” who asks dumb questions and screams a lot. Sladen ran with the role and helped pioneer a new genre of female hero in British drama – the feisty yet vulnerable female. She stayed with the show for two years after Tom Baker replaced Pertwee, and returned for the the 20th anniversary reunion show The Five Doctors and a short-lived spin-off, K-9 and Company.

But while after that, Sladen thought her time with Doctor Who was done, that was not to be the case. When Russell T Davies relaunched Doctor Who, Sladen was top of the list of old friends to return, and was reunited with David Tennant’s Doctor in the 2006 story.”

SWTOR: Dev Blog – Advanced Classes Update

Posted by Dravin on April 7, 2011

So as with most games SWTOR will have some sort of ‘Advanced Class’ so you can split out and better fine tune your toon (hah) for whatever it is you desire. Generally standard ideas, some pretty neat stuff mixed in – but its just a tease until I can actually play…

“Advanced Classes (often abbreviated ACs) are chosen on your faction’s capital world – either Coruscant or Dromund Kaas – when your character reaches level 10 or above. Each base class gets a choice of two Advanced Classes; for example if you are playing a Jedi Knight, you will be able to choose to play the Jedi Guardian or Jedi Sentinel Advanced Class.

Choosing an Advanced Class is very important in The Old Republic, as within your Advanced Class, your character will reach their full potential. Your Advanced Class choice dramatically alters the gameplay experience of your base class by providing access to two exclusive skill trees per Advanced Class, with a third being shared between both Advanced Classes.
